Abstract
This study examines the realization of modified tones (the tones that a syllable carries in a non final position) in Min-nan by means of instrumental and statistical analyses. Previous studies reported that the modified tons 1 ' ( Ш -p ) and 2' (Pè¥ ), 4' (}tž )and 6' (?ix ended with a glottal stop) , 5' (f%£ ) and 7'b (1% A ended with a glottal stop) are the same tones respectively. Such fact was observable only at Fo level and duration level in the present study. Significant differences in intensity were observed, especially between modified tones 4' and 6'b.
