Abstract
The measurements of the spin and orbital magnetic moments of Fe 3 O 4 was analyzed. It was found that Fe 3 O 4 had a noninteger spin moment, in contrast to its predicted half-metallic feature. The Coulomb interaction of 3d electrons lead to the unquenched orbital moment of Fe 3 O 4 . Analysis suggested that strong correlation and spin-orbit interaction of the 3d electrons results in the noninteger spin and large orbital moments of Fe 3 O 4 .
