Using synchrotron-radiation core-level photoemission, we found that the formation of the YBaCuO-Pb interface is not unreactive. A reacted PbO-like intralayer is formed for substrate temperatures down to 40-50 K. The intralayer is very thin, and automatically results in the formation of an SIS structure. © 1990.
