Abstract
In this paper, a fuzzy linguistic multi-criteria method for subjective assessment of mental workload is proposed. The criteria ratings and the corresponding importance weights are assessed in linguistic terms, which are described by fuzzy numbers with triangular and trapezoidal membership function. A fuzzy weighted average algorithm, based on the extension principle, is employed to aggregate these fuzzy numbers. The aggregated fuzzy number is then translated back to linguistics and the overall mental workload is expressed in linguistic terms. © 1994.
