Abstract

Slave-boson mean field is used for the Periodic Anderson model to study the coexistence between superconductivity and antiferromagnetism in UPt 3 . We assume that the antiferromagnetism comes from the spin-density-wave background and couples with the superconductivity through the change of density of states at the Fermi level. Our results agree qualitatively with the hydrostatic pressure and doping experiments. Besides, we predict that applying pressure or impurity doping can either reduce or enhance the superconducting transition temperature depending on the magnetic coupling constant. © 1996 THE PHYSICAL SOCIETY OF THE REPUBLIC OF CHINA.
