Abstract
Reaction of formic acid with aqueous (NH 4 ) 6- [Mo 7 O 24 ]yields the compound (NH 4 ) 3 [(HCO)(Mo 4 O 14 )]·H 2 O which has been shown by X-ray crystallography to contain the discrete [(H 2 Mo 8 O 28 )] 6- anion; this anion is related to the [H 2 Mo 8 O 28 ] 6- anion by replacement of its surface-bound protons with formyl groups.
