Abstract
The homogeneous coprecipitation of ZnS:Ag 2 S via the hydrolysis of thioacetamide (TAA) was investigated. The effects of silver content and the gas/liquid interfacial area per unit liquid volume on particle size and particle number concentration were specifically studied. In general, the resulting precipitates are spherical and have narrow size distributions. Particle growth rate was found to be dependent on silver content. On the other hand, particle number concentration increases with increasing gas-liquid contact area per unit liquid volume. We also observed that the spherical precipitates were actually composed of very small spherical crystallites or fibers, depending on the TAA/[Zn 2+ ] ratio. A formation mechanism corresponding to our observation was therefore proposed. © 1991.
