The importance of national systems in the innovation process was highlighted, using a case study of Taiwan's information technology (IT) industry. The identification pointed to the importance of sets of institutional arrangements for the success of innovation. The study demonstrated that strong firms, industrial networks, government industrial policy, educational institutions and financial institutions all matter to technological diffusion success.
