Abstract
Thermal loading and magnetic properties such as magnetostriction and saturation magnetization of Fe-Pd melt-spun ribbons were examined. An ingot of a nominal composition 30at.% Pd belonging to ferromagnetic shape memory alloys was prepared by arc-melting in argon atmosphere. The magnetic properties were examined using a vibration sample method (VSM) employing an electromagnet controlled by a controller of the electromagnetic field. The deformation-temperature curves for various stress levels exhibited hysteresis due to the fcc-fct transformation. It was also observed that the fine structures of the ribbons resulted in their low saturation magnetostriction.
