Abstract
In order to maintain competitive advantages, modem enterprises not only have to continuous ly enhance the quality of their products and service, but also have to effectively manage various operational resources to enhance profitability and growth. However, most existing studies focus on the optimization of individual performance indices that do not connect with the resources of a firm as a whole. To fill the gap, this research aims to propose a systematic framework, Total Resource Management (TRM) framework, for managing the resources for corporate operation excellence . In particular, the objectives are structured and thus the performance indices for utilizing various corporate resources are determined to enhance the overall effectiveness. In addition, empirical studies were cond ucted in a leading semiconductor compa ny in Taiwan to employ the methodologies for TRM, including the construction of resource utilization objecti ve hierarchy and the associated performance indices. We also deve loped a process for benchmarking among various fabs for contin uous improvement. The results have shown the validity of the propos ed TRM framework and practical viability in semiconductor manufacturing.
