Abstract

Engineering (all)
Summarizes a study to develop a time-accurate computer model for three-dimensional jet injection into swirling flows in complex chambers. The model aims to support other, mainly qualitative, studies on swirling flow in engine combustion chambers. A 3D time-accurate finite-volume procedure developed by Hoholis and Leschziner was the starting point. Representation of transport by a second-moment closure is a key feature of the model. Results from preliminary model validation are presented; however, to date there is limited experimental data available. (J.M.M.)
