The derivations of two item selection algorithms for creating parallel forms using item response theory (IRT) information functions are described. Within the last several years researchers have used the IRT information approach to construct tests by applying mathematical programming algorithms. The algorithms developed in this paper take a less complicated and more straightforward approach to created parallel forms by matching prespecified target information functions. An numerical example using the ACT (American college Test) Assessment Program (AAP) Math Usage test data is presented and demonstrates that algorithms produce good results. Some considerations and ways for improving the algorithms are discussed.
