Abstract
It is shown how to apply the Viterbi algorithm to detect randomly located impulses that have Gaussian distributed amplitudes. The detector can deal with cases of severely overlapping wavelets. Experimental results and comparisons to J. I. Kormylo and J. M. Mendel's (1982) single-most-likely-replacement detector are provided, using synthetic data.
