Abstract

Mesostructured Co3O4 with a Ia3d symmetry was synthesized by nanocasting from cubic Ia3D mesoporous vinylsilica. The vinyl groups plays an important role in entrapping Co(NO 3 ) 2 inside the pores. The magnetic properties of the synthesized cobalt oxide is the basis of magnetic nanocomposites, if the pore system could be filled with another ferromagnetic material. The wide-angle XRD patterns of the cobalt oxide replica showed broadened Bragg diffraction peaks, which suggested that the cobalt oxide could be readily crystallized within the confined nanospace.
