The European Bioethics Convention (Abbreviation: EBC) is the most important legal document for bioethics. It draws the judicial boundaries for the research on human beings in the field of biomedicine. In the preface of the EBC, the ultimate goal of the convention is explicitly stated: The protection of human dignity in the rapid development of biology and medicine. The present article aims to discuss the normal specifications of human dignity in the EBC. The goals of the discussion are threefold: First of all, it analyses the normal specifications of the convention and the principles behind these specifications. Second, it examines whether the normal specifications truly conform to the principles. Finally, it evaluates the convention based on the analyses and examinations.
