Abstract
Due to the increasing complication of legal affairs, it hast been discussed for a long time that a new system should be created in order to enhance and guarantee the professional competence of lawyers. As early as more than a decade ago, the lawyer community made a loud appeal for “the validation of legal profession of lawyers and the establishment of an on-the-job training system”. It also came to a consensus on the introduction of the so-called Specialized Lawyer. However, after so many years, the system has not yet been established. The unceasing dispute over the design of the specific contents of the system remains a fundamental obstacle. In order to provide a basis for further discussion, this paper presents an updated introduction to the current German Specialised Lawyer system and focuses on the role of bar associations and the practice.
