Abstract
The main purpose of this paper is to investigate the applications of information technologies in the process of implementing business process redesign (BPR). To take a deep insight into the key issues of implementing a BPR project, a business process redesign model is proposed based on the process reengineering life cycle (PRLC) model proposed by Kettinger et al (1995a). To investigate the key isues of applying Information Technology (IT) on business process design, a successful BPR project implementing in a large scale electronic company is illustrated in the case study. We take an in-depth interviews with persons involving BPR project and collect related data to find out the major factors for implementing a successful BPR project. This study focuses on the most important issues--process analysis and process redesign, and applications of information technologies in implementing a BPR project. The findings of research indicate that commitments and supports from top management, comprehensive process analysis and process redesign, and planned implementation of information technology are the critical factors for implementing a BPR project successfully.
