Abstract
The main theme of the annual meeting of ICOMOS, held in Paris in November 2011, was "Heritage: Driver of Urban Development". This topic focuses on preserving urban cultural heritage as a positive force for urbanism in the future. This paper echoes and addresses ICOMOS' advocacy to "save as is" by studying the case of a historical building located at 127, Sec.1, DiHua Street in Taipei City and the generation of a model with a local museum-like platform for the promotion of community knowledge and activities. The formation of the urban renewal strategy for the 127 Design Gallery (also known as URS 127) not only serves as a research topic but also as a policy making reference for future urban development.
