Abstract
The purpose of this study was to discuss the framework of Relationship-Centered Counseling Model (Kelly, 1994, 1995, 1996, 1997) and its potential applying to the process of counseling. Counselors employing Relationship-Centered counseling model emphasize on establishing a trustful and humanistic counseling relationship as the primary role, and integrating a variety of clinically based effective counseling skills and techniques across different counseling approaches to strengthen the development of counseling relationship, and then to enhance the effectiveness of counseling process. In addition, Relationship-Centered Counseling model was attuned with rationales of both multicultural counseling and mini-theories which stress that counselors should select and employ effective counseling style, model, concepts, skills, and techniques compatible with clients' cultural characteristics, such as race, ethnicity, gender, age, sexual orientation, level of disability, socio-economic status, personality characteristics, problem type, psychological disorder, and counseling context, etc. Limited research has proved Relationship-Centered Counseling effective, and more research is needed to investigate its effect on both process and outcome of counseling.
