Abstract
The study is aimed at developing augmented reality touring for Beipu history in Taiwan. The concept of AEIOU scenario methods are used to analyze the users, activities, environments, objects, and interactions as the design reference of a touring storyboard. The research adopts survey methods to understand the spatial environment, and in-depth interviews with experts of Beipu history in order to collect related literature for historical background, and cultural characteristics through field research. The information collected is utilized to plan a tour route during the explorative process of realizing knowledge from the historical places. The study then adopts a LAYAR authoring tool to integrate interactive media and interface design, as well as to survey 42 tourists for operational practice. The research findings can be summarized as the implemental touring method with LAYAR augmented reality system for the presentation of historical places. Users are guided to explore cultural knowledge through interaction with the digital contents. Virtual objects, real objects and relative spatial relationships in the environment are linked together to help users perceive the environment. In addition, the interactive effect can attract users' attention so as to fully explore the content of their knowledge. This study proposes an interactive augmented reality touring design, which is a reference to design digital content for other historical places in future.
