In the present issue of Scripta Materialia, A. Paul comments on a paper previously published by the present authors. In this Reply we show that these comments are based on his failure to understand the differences between his and our approaches of simplification of the multi-component system. We also show that experimental results indicate that his pseudo-binary approach over-simplifies diffusion in multicomponent systems and could possibly lead to incorrect interpretation of the actual diffusion behavior.
