Abstract

Correlation between both growth rate and nucleation rate and residence time for continuous MSMPR crystallizers has been carried out based on published results from the literature. It was found that, under steady state conditions, the inverse of residence time (i. e. 1/ tau ) can be used as a measure of the driving force for crystal growth from the solution. Moreover, the correlation between B**0 and tau is generally better than that between B**0 and G. Finally, the comparison of the exponents of residence time from this correlation work to those calculated from a simple population balance model offers a way of evaluating errors due to experimental procedure, other variables in the system and/or inadequacies of the population balance model itself.
