Abstract
The invention relates to novel liquid crystal compounds of the general formulae I and II, wherein are: X 1 , X 2 and X 3 fluoro, cyano, trifluoromethyl, trifluoromethoxy, nitro or a hydrogen atom, R C 1-10 -alkyl or C 1-10 -alkoxy, which may be substituted, A a cyclohexane ring, a benzene ring, a dioxane ring, a pyrimidine ring or a bicyclo[2.2.2]-octane or -hexane ring, Z a single bond, an ester bond, an ether bond, methylene or ethylene, and n 1 or 2. The invention further relates to active matrix type liquid crystal display devices, particularly of the horizontal electric field type, comprising these liquid crystal compounds.
