Abstract
A method for making micrometer-sized carbon tubes is disclosed. A natural or synthetic fiber is first coated with a thermally stable coating material to form a coating layer over the fiber. Such coated fiber is then employed for making a hollow carbon tube, by removing the fiber and carbonizing the coating layer together with the residue of the fiber (if there is any). The removing treatment and carbonization treatment can be proceeded sequentially or concurrently.
