Abstract

Each routing area (11) has multiple cells (12), each of which represents cover through a base station (13). A general packet radio service systems (GPRS) network uses a pair of finite-state machines that run in GPRS-supporting nodes (SGSN) (14) and in a mobile telephone (15) in order to run mobility management for the mobile telephone. The finite-state device operates three status levels: stand-by, ready and open circuit. An Independent claim is also included for a mobility management system for a wireless data network.
