Abstract
The present invention relates to an optical recording medium and recording method. An optical recording medium is formed by plating a substrate with hydrogenated amorphous solid containing covalent bonds, such as hydrogenated amorphous carbon. Hydrogen is released when the covalent bond-containing hydrogenated amorphous solid receives energy and yields structure change. Localized high pressure is generated and presses upon the thermally softened substrate to create a partial recess on the substrate and form a space. The partial recess on the substrate increases light diffusion and lowers light reflectivity and thus achieves data recording. The optical recording medium is characterized by high recording sensitivity, good light resistance, and secured data reliability, being resistant to damages caused by corrosion, moisture or microorganism, and has improved life span.
