Abstract

The present invention relates to a discharge unit of the plasma display panel with five electrodes, in which the second X-electrode and the second Y-electrode are additionally installed at the positions close to the first X-electrode and the first Y-electrode, respectively, on the inner side surface of the front substrate corresponding to each discharging unit in the conventional AC discharging type plasma display panel. The second X-electrode and the second Y-electrode are separated from the first X-electrode, the first Y-electrode and the inductive layer, respectively, with an appropriate distance such that they are insulated from each other, and additionally, both the second X-electrode and the second Y-electrode can be independent from the first X-electrode and the first Y-electrode to form two independent electrodes. The discharge unit is made to be able to use the two electrodes added additionally, and, by incorporating the memory effects obtained from the original three electrodes, the continuously discharging time for the gas in the discharge unit can be effectively extended so as to greatly increase the light emission efficiency and intensity of the plasma display panel. Furthermore, the switching times of the switch devices are decreased such that the power loss caused by the switching time of the switch devices is reduced.
