Abstract
The research objectives of this study are as follows: (a) develop a strategy that integrates lesson study into teaching internship, (b) examine the collaborative lesson preparation, lesson observation, and lesson discussion after integrating lesson study into teaching internship, (c) understand the learning outcomes of student teachers undergoing the teaching internship integrated with lesson study, and (d) understand the professional development and reflection of lecturing teachers during the teaching internship integrated with lesson study. This study adopts an action research design. The research participants are 36 student teachers participating in the teaching internship in the 4th year of the undergraduate program of University T. The research methods comprise the following steps: (a) understand the current situation and identify the starting point for the action research, (b) define the starting point for the action research, (c) analyze the cause of problems, (d) develop feasible action plans and indicators for evaluating the effectiveness of the plan, (e) implement the action plan, (f) examine the implementation of the plan, (g) revise the action plan before implementation again, (h) assess the effect of the action plan, and (i) write reports to publicize the process and results of the research. Data collection methods include in-depth interviews, observations, documentary data collection, and questionnaires. Regarding data analysis, quantitative and qualitative data are summarized for comprehensive analysis and discussion. Consequently, conclusions and suggestions are made accordingly. This research finds that lesson study can build an environment for student teachers to cooperate and learn, create a positive professional relationship, and solve situation of insufficient cooperation and discussion. The instructor understands the importance of clear learning tasks for student teachers and has a better understanding of competency-based instruction.
