Abstract
In this project, I first review the background that teaching econometrics is really important, in particular in the era of big data. Students from economics major equipped with a strong econometric tool would make them easy to succeed in job market. I then critically review the current teaching method and point out several pitfalls for further improvement. The new teaching method is called a modular approach which collects a series of odules/topics with an motivating example in each module. The design of my chosen module is in accordance with the one in Department of Economics at Cornell University. This modular approach also utilizes the pre-test and post-test exam papers developed by Dr. Doug McKee from Cornell University. Using the same skill assessment exam papers enables to control/monitor the initial statistics ability and to compare the learning performance for students from NTHU and Cornell. Evaluation of teaching effectiveness through different measures has proposed in this project. It worth noting that our careful empirical evaluation is based on a uniquely compiled data set from many data sources.
