Abstract
The course "Application on probability and statistical" focuses on both theory and application. Professor Song often quotes: "Theory=infinite examples", which leads students to acknowledge the value of theory. Most students panic because they consider theory with notations and formula as abstract. Students often comment on Professor's creative teaching way as "delicious and good digestion", which means easy to understand and get the point. Various forms of Professor Song's creative teaching include: being problem-oriented instead of tool-oriented, begin with end, focus on "zero to one"(creation)instead of "one to many"(practicing, insert data into formula), use songs and poems to capture the insight of each chapter, use metaphor to relate old and new materials, use tables and figures to summarize and compare complicated concepts, use experiments via software(such as Excel, Minitab, and R)to implement theory. Students found the above-mentioned ways of teaching to be fascinating and make the material easy to learn and hard to forget. Moreover, many of the students now have an appreciation for the value of this subject matter to their lives. Students not only learn from Professor's teaching, but also learn from their own presentations during the semester: they improve the logic of content organization and presentation skills from Professor's feedback. At the end of the semester, many students thank Professor Song, saying that "You made me smarter", while replied with "I just wake up you". Professor Song received the 2019 best teaching award from Institute of Engineering Education Taiwan(IEET)and continuously received 2017, 2018, and 2019 the best Tsing Hua reading club awards.
