Abstract
The central aim of this project is to undertake the intricate task of amalgamating traditional Chinese classical arts seamlessly into the pragmatic execution of the curriculum. Through experiential learning and tangible exercises throughout the course duration, students will cultivate a genuine appreciation for traditional arts, transcending mere theoretical understanding and visual representation. The accompanying course for this endeavor, titled "Social and Cultural Aspects of the Song Dynasty," delves into multifarious themes such as "Woodblock Printing and Literary Relics of the Song Dynasty," "Legal Records of Song Dynasty Magistrates and Forensic Documentation," "Neo-Confucianism and Scholarly Culture of the Song Dynasty," "Scholars' Annotations and Anecdotes of the Song Dynasty," "Depictions of Fauna, Artifacts, and Geographical Settings in Song Dynasty Literature," "The Vision of the Capital and the Portrayal of Urban Culture in Song Dynasty Literature," and "Cultural Depictions of the Song Dynasty in Jin Yong's Martial Arts Epics." The experiential immersion in traditional Chinese arts incorporated within the curriculum encompasses activities like "Calligraphy on Bamboo Slips and Rope Making," "Handcrafting and Pulp Production," "Stone Inscription Rubbing," "Woodblock Printing," "Metal Type Printing," and "Introduction to and Application of Divinatory Principles in the I Ching." Prior to formal project application, it has undergone two pilot runs, amassing practical pedagogical experience, soliciting on-site feedback from students, and progressively refining and adjusting, striving for the attainment of utmost excellence.
