Abstract
While teaching a class with complicated equations like General Physics and Cosmology, I found that students often fall asleep and are not able to follow the lecture. To keep students awake and attract their attention, we tried to use game based teaching on 2 courses in the 112th academic year: General Physics II and Cosmology. The course methodology integrates teaching, projects, and presentations to deepen students' understanding of physics and cosmology. Students first learn basic knowledge of physics/cosmology and apply it in midterm and final reports. For the midterm, students select a physics or cosmology-themed board game, and present related scientific concepts. This process helps them engage with the material interactively and understand what constitutes a science-based game, aiding their final project. In the final project, students create their own board or video game incorporating physics or cosmology concepts, presenting and explaining the underlying science. This fosters independent learning and creativity, while also stimulating interest among peers. Evaluation is based on 25% midterm presentation, 25% midterm report, 25% final presentation, and 25% final report (General Physics II), 50% midterm presentation and 50% final presentation (Cosmology) Game based teaching is very successful. Questionnaire after the semester showed that students are more engaged and energetic than average classrooms at NHU. Students also generally like game based courses.
